Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Fan Strategy.
- Accumulator
- A bet that combines multiple selections into one wager; all selections must win for the bet to pay out.
- Asian Handicap
- A handicap given to a team to level the match, using whole, half, or quarter goal lines.
- Bankroll
- The total amount of money set aside for placing bets.
- Bet Builder
- An online tool that lets you create custom bets by combining different outcomes of the same match.
- BTTS (Both Teams To Score)
- A bet on whether each side will score at least one goal during the match.
- Cash Out
- A feature that lets you settle a bet before the event ends, locking in a profit or limiting a loss.
- Double Chance
- A bet that covers two of the three possible outcomes in a match, such as home win or draw.
- Draw No Bet
- A bet that refunds your stake if the match ends in a draw.
- Each-Way
- A two-part bet where you back a team to win and also place a smaller bet on them to place (usually top 3).
- European Handicap
- A type of handicap that uses whole numbers only, without the quarter‑goal splits used in Asian handicap.
- Expected Value (EV)
- The average amount you can expect to win or lose per bet if the same odds were repeated many times.
- In‑Play Betting
- Placing bets on a match while it is already in progress.
- Kelly Criterion
- A formula used to determine the optimal size of a bet based on your edge and the odds.
- Lay Bet
- A bet that a specific outcome will not happen, typically placed on a betting exchange.
- Margin
- The bookmaker’s built‑in profit margin expressed as a percentage of the true odds.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total number of goals (or points) in a match will be above or below a set line.
- Parlay
- Another term for an accumulator; a single bet that links multiple selections.
- Price Boost
- A special offer that increases the odds on a particular selection.
- Risk‑Free Bet
- A promotional bet where the stake is refunded if the bet loses, up to a certain amount.
- ROI
- Return on Investment; the net profit expressed as a percentage of the total amount wagered.
- Self‑Exclusion
- A facility that lets you temporarily block yourself from placing bets for a set period.
- Spread
- The difference between the odds offered by different bookmakers for the same event.
- Staking Plan
- A systematic method for deciding how much to wager on each bet based on your bankroll.
- Void Bet
- A bet that is cancelled and the stake is returned, usually because the event did not occur as scheduled.
- Wagering Requirement
- The number of times you must bet a bonus amount before you can withdraw any winnings.
